Diary of a Sewing Shop – Chaos Becomes Order

  • by

And Peace is Restored!

Over a couple of weeks where our government was in total chaos, thankfully peace has now been restored in our little sewing haven after a much needed rearrange to our shop layout.

New Shop Layout

On my way to work last Saturday inspiration struck and I decided to have a little rearrange.

The original layout had been designed to accommodate social distancing for Covid-19 restrictions and it was time to take on the simple task of swapping the haberdashery with the patterns.  Oh, and to push the counter closer to the door and display the Christmas fabrics in the little alcove at the front too.

But, whilst I was doing that, why not also bring all the quilting and craft cottons down to the front of the shop too, I thought?!  Before I knew it almost everything in the shop had been moved!  And, after a couple of days of heavy lifting, I was exhausted!!!

But the results are amazing and it is a huge improvement.  So, totally worth it.

If you are local to Bourne, pop in and take a look.  However, for those of you further away, I have posted a video on our social media pages.  Take a look.

Fabric Sale

Also long overdue was the discounting of quite a few of our dressmaking fabrics to make way for new ones.

There are nearly discounted fabrics, so, if you have had your eye on something, take a look.  It may well have been discounted and you’ll get yourself a bargain.

And whilst you are there, quite a few of our quilting and craft cottons have also been discounted, so it is well worth taking a look.

Luxurious New Babycords

Fabric deliveries are always exciting and it was great to receive our new babycord fabrics.  They are soft and have enough drape to be versatile and will be warm to wear.

First of all we have 4 new colours of the Willow plain babycord fabrics – lavender, wine, delft blue and navy.

We also have the pretty Sara babycord fabrics that come in ivory and navy blue.

Suitable patterns would be the:

Tilly and the Buttons Skye sundress
Megan Nielsen Tania culottes
Nina Lee Camden pinafore or skirt
Megan Nielsen Protea dress, top or skirt

On my social media pages I am regularly posting videos of our fabrics together with pattern suggestions.  Click on the links at the bottom of this newsletter to follow us.

Sew Over It Chloe Coat

Currently my glamorous shop assistant is modelling the gorgeous Sew Over It Chloe coat.  This sample was beautifully made by Carol a few years ago.

We currently only have 1 pattern left and it has been discounted to £11.25.

Who is going to claim it?!

New Pattern!

I’m working really hard to release some of my more popular patterns that are no longer being taught in our workshops.

Paper copies can be purchased in the shop or you can order a pdf download from the website.  Each pattern has detailed instructions and full colour photographs.

I am regularly asked for the oven gloves pattern so here it is!  They are so lovely to make and with Christmas approaching, they would be fabulous gifts too.

For my sample I used the fun Gingerbread Biscuits fabrics by Debbie Shore – a perfect combination.

New Sewing Kits

This week it was time to place another order for haberdashery.  As the Christmas sewing kits were so popular last year, I ordered some more.

To my delighted I discovered that Docrafts have extended their range and they are all adorable.

They are very reasonably priced so why not treat yourself or someone you know.

Sewing Quotes

As there wasn’t a newsletter last week, I have two quotes to share with you.

Does either of them resonate with you?

I hope you are having a lovely weekend and if you have any queries please get in touch.

If you would like to catch up on our previous ‘Diary of a Sewing Shop’ updates, they are available to read as blog posts.

Happy sewing!!
